MUSIC AT ASCENSION

Music & Other Liturgical Art Forms at Ascension
Ascension has long been a place where music plays an important role in enhancing the worship service of our community. The following are just some examples of the opportunities that can be found at Ascension Lutheran Church.

The Chancel Choir
The “Choir,” as it is most commonly known, is made up of both male and female singers joining their voices in praise to God and God’s holy word. Approximately 20 singers comprise the choir and sing in 4-part harmony at all weekly services from early September until early June each church year. Usually, two special services, one during the Christmas season, and one during Easter are presented during the normal Sunday worship services. The choir meets weekly on Wednesday evenings from 7 until 8:30 PM and welcomes all new singers. Prior choir singing is not a prerequisite and all voices are welcome.

The “Alleluia Ringers” Bell Choir
The “Bells,” under the very capable leadership of retired music teacher, Marilyn Stoner, is comprised of 12-15 persons and meets weekly on Monday evenings from 7 until 8:00 PM. The bell choir plays during worship services once each month and at special services. This choir also participates at local and regional bell conferences during the year. No prior musical training is required for this organization. Feel free to contact Marilyn or the office if you are interested in playing.

Music at Ascension - A Chamber Concert Series
Begun in 2006, Music at Ascension has become a staple for area music lovers in providing an artistic outreach program to both members of Ascension and fine arts aficionados in the Greater Cincinnati area. Both young artists and proven professional ensembles provide an evening of music for attending audiences at no cost, followed by a reception and fellowship opportunity.

The Annual “Stars of Tomorrow” Concert
Each year, in early June, four young musical talents, ages 14 to 18, are chosen from the greater Cincinnati area from recommendations by their teachers and other professional musicians, and presented in a public concert. Each concert receives a review by a noted critic and the young artists represented are among those perceived to be actively approaching a career in the field of music.
